CONTEXT

Project Brief

Funraiser is an annual music & networking festival that raises funds and awareness for prominent causes. For this year (2025), I built the festival website and app around the LA wildfires.

Problem Statement

Many young people desire to support important causes but lack accessible ways to get involved. Additionally, traditional relief efforts struggle to engage younger audiences. The Funraiser Festival is a culturally relevant and community-driven approach that empowers youth to actively participate in fundraising through immersive experiences.

Goals

Designing a responsive festival website and app to streamline ticket purchasing, improve navigation throughout festival grounds, and inspire users to engage with the meaningful causes spotlighted at each annual event.

Competetive Analysis

  • What difficulties may arise for users when planning their experience at our festival?

  • What festival resources can be created to accommodate for people with disabilities?

  • What resources can be offered to make the festival experience more convenient?

  • How can I support festival goers who are passionate about contributing to more relief efforts?

Questions

DEFINE

User Research

  • Getting involved in supporting social causes and relief efforts like fundraising for victims of the LA fires

  • Learning about ways to get involved from industry professionals

  • Seeing their favorite artists perform

  • Finding a community of like-minded people with progressive values so that they can feel a sense of belonging

Target Audience

To identify the target audience, I conducted 15 in-person surveys with individuals aged 18–35 and supplemented this with extensive online, data-driven research.

User Goals

From my research, I found that the Funraiser target audience is young California residents aged 18–35 with progressive values and a taste for pop, indie, R&B, and rap music. They are likely middle class college students, primarily English-speaking, and reflective of Los Angeles’ white and Hispanic demographics. Their main pain points are poor preparation and unsafe environments, and loneliness.

IDEATE

Creating an affinity map helped me pinpoint key features that would address the target audience’s pain points and goals. However, there were still a few factors I needed to consider before wireframing:

  • Some features were too advanced or demanding to run on the website

  • The website has more space to go in-depth about festival information

  • The app should highlight features that users need quick and easy access to during the festival

Determining Key Features

It became clear after categorizing the key features that the Funraiser website should focus on pre-festival planning (e.g., buying tickets, finding hotels), while the Funraiser app would serve as a navigation guide during the festival (interactive map, friend-adding system for safety, digital tickets for easy scanning, etc.).

  • Website is detailed and informative

  • App is simple and quick
